A + Mechanical Service !

You ever have one of those days that you makes you believe that someone is truly out to get you? You know, the second you step foot out of bed, your already in trouble. Well this morning I woke up in hell (aka Sandy Springs) and realized that my break pads in my car lost pressure. To make matters worse, I realized this WHILE I was driving on the free way at sixty miles-per-hour. Thoughts of bills I had not yet paid combined with what my college loan would be adding up to popped into my head, ....and now this? I began calling various mechanics local to where I live and every mechanic I spoke to said that I needed a new master cylinder---then they quoted me a price between $400-$500. My heart began to race and I thought I was going to have a panic attack. I chain smoked from one cigarette to the next, then I called the last number on my list. "Hello, this is David. Thank you for calling Tires-Plus....how can I help you?" His tone of voice for whatever reason.....calmed me down. I explained to him that I had lost pressure in my brakes and that I was a college student. He replied by telling me that the best thing to do would be to just bring in it and that he doubted that I needed a new master cylinder because repairs such as those were rare. Long story short, I had a hole in one of the brake lines. He quoted me a price of 2 hundred and something and then I asked him if I really needed to replace 2 when all I needed was one. He then said, "Hold on,...lemme check if the other ones are okay. Be right back." When he returned, he said that one repair for a single line would be around 140. I said that would be fine. He followed that with a "I don't want your money....I want your service. A repeat customer is worth more in 10 trips than they are on 1." He then shared a story with me how he came to be hired. He had a repair, was quoted ridiculous prices, and when he went to TiresPlus..he found out what was really wrong and saved about 3 grand! Now he manages the location I went to. To anyone reading this who has any fear or confusion as to where to go and what mechanic to trust. Please let me recommend you to Tires-Plus, located on 665 Johnson Ferry road. Ask for David. Stop wasting time looking for a trustworthy mechanic....David is the only one in Atlanta in my opinion.

Fun for some, and none for others.

With less than four weeks left in the semester, some Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) students are preparing for the vacation, while others are preparing for their future. For some students, these are the classes that determine whether they can move on towards that four year university or land that internship. GPC student Jonathan Boynton is taking three classes this semester, and says that he has a long way to go before he can take his finals head on. He is presently employed through Nascar sponsor and leading energy beverage company NOS. He is also a National Guardsman, and has been serving this country since 2004. "I alternate my job one weekend a month and head over to the Armory over in Canton, Ga. That's where I am stationed."

Eliyas Kebour, part-time blogger and part-time student says, "I feel the same way about these next four weeks as I did with the first four; I'm just ready to get them over with."

Regardless of which direction students may be heading this year, one thing is for certain: Summer has arrived.

Relax and Make a Friend

I was walking along the walkway behind the E building when I noticed several students
relaxing near Georgia Perimeter College's (GPC) designated smoking hut on the Dunwoody campus. They were enjoying the sun and laughing. One student was working on his laptop, with an expression that told me he was focused and working on completing something.

"This is where I socialize and relax. It's a great place to unwind right before or right after a test and even make new friends," said Charley, a student.

"And do homework," another student added.

I wished them a good day and headed back to my class, two friends richer than I was before.

How many of you have made friends in similar situations. Share your stories with me and let me know!
